Anche se negli Stati Uniti i premi più prestigiosi della musica sono tre: Grammy Awards, American Music Awards e Billboard Awards, in aggiunta ad essi c’è un’altra statuetta molto ambita, però riservata solo agli artisti del mondo black: i BET Awards.
Si tratta della 23esima edizione dei Black Entertainment Television Awards e si è svolta al Peacock Theater di Los Angeles. L'artista con più nominations è stato Drake con 7. Hanno trionfato Beyoncé e SZA con 3 premi a testa. Nell'evento Busta Rhymes è stato premiato con il BET Lifetime Achievement Award.
