Anche se negli Stati Uniti i premi più prestigiosi della musica sono tre: Grammy Awards, American Music Awards e Billboard Awards, in aggiunta ad essi c’è un’altra statuetta molto ambita, però riservata solo agli artisti del mondo black: i BET Awards.
Questi premi sono nati nel 2001 con il network BET (Black Entertainment Television), per celebrare gli afroamericani più influenti dell’anno nel campo della musica, della recitazione e dello sport. Ieri si è svolta l’edizione del 2018, la diciottesima in totale ed ha avuto luogo al Microsoft Theater di Los Angeles. La cerimonia è stata condotta da Jamie Foxx ed ha visto la partecipazione di numerosi performers: Jay Rock, J. Cole, Wale, Migos, Miguel, Nicki Minaj, YG, 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Meek Mill, Snoop Dogg e molti altri. Con due statuette, il trionfatore della serata è stato Kendrick Lamar, il quale ha inoltre ricevuto quella per “Album of the Year”.
