Anche se negli Stati Uniti i premi più prestigiosi della musica sono tre: Grammy Awards, American Music Awards e Billboard Awards, in aggiunta ad essi c’è un’altra statuetta molto ambita, però riservata solo agli artisti del mondo black: i BET Awards.
Si tratta della 22esima edizione dei Black Entertainment Television Awards e si è svolta al Microsoft Theater di Los Angeles. Anche quest'anno lo show è stato presentato da Taraji P. Henson.
A trionfare è stata Doja Cat che, dopo aver ricevuto 6 nominations, ha portato a casa 4 premi. Nell'evento Sean Combs aka Diddy è stato premiato con il BET Lifetime Achievement Award. Durante la serata si sono esibiti: Lizzo, Jack Harlow, Dj Drama, Lil Wayne, Brandy, Maverick City Music, Krik Franklin, Fierboy DML, Doechii, Muni Long, Chance the Rapper, Joey Badass, Ella Mai, Babyface, Roddy Ricch, Latto, Young Dirty Bastard, Mariah Carey, Diddy, Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Shane, Bryson Tiller, Busta Rhymes, The Lox, Lil Kim, Faith Evans, Chloe e Giveon.
