Ieri notte si sono tenuti i Billboard Music Awards 2016 alla T-Mobile Arena di Las Vegas. Si è trattato del primo evento televisivo trasmesso da quella location, è andato in onda sulla ABC ed è stato presentato da Ludacris e Ciara.
I BMA insieme ai Grammy Awards ed agli American Music Awards, sono considerati i premi più importanti della musica.
I BMA sono sponsorizzati dalla rivista Billboard, nata nel 1936 e celebre perché contiene alcune sezioni dedicate alle classifiche, considerate tra le più precise e dettagliate al mondo.
Come per gli AMA, i BMA consegnano i premi in base alle vendite degli artisti ricavate dalle classifiche Billboard 200 e Hot 100. I premi sono assegnati al miglior singolo, al miglior album ed al miglior artista di ogni genere.
Gli artisti più premiati sono: Janet Jackson con 33 awards, Mariah Carey con 31 e Michael Jackson con 26. Tra i rapper più premiati troviamo: Eminem con 17 e 50 Cent con 13.
Se nell’anno passato, il Rap durante l’evento, era stato ridotto ai minimi termini, nel 2016 i Billboard Music Awards sono stati pieni di Hip-Hop, a partire dai presentatori, alle esibizioni, alle nominations ed agli artisti premiati.
Con 20 nominees infatti, l’artista che ha trionfato durante i BMA è stato proprio The Weeknd, che ha portato a casa ben sei statuette.
Durante la serata ci sono state numerose performance, tra cui quelle di: TY Dolla $ign, Justin Bieber, Rihanna ed infine di Madonna, Stevie Wonder e QuestLove, che hanno omaggiato Prince.
Se il premio Top Artist, è stato assegnato ad Adele, quello di Top New Artist è spettato al rapper Fetty Wap. Nelle categorie dedicate al Rap, hanno trionfato: Drake, Wiz Khalifa e Meek Mill.
